National TV Publicity: How to Launch a Book Fast

John Kremer, Book Marketing Consultant

Question:

I need to get my book known right away because the ideas in it may already have been stolen. How can I blast promote my book ASAP?

John’s Answer:

If you haven’t set up your marketing campaign while writing your book, chances are that you won’t be able to blast-promote it. Amazon Bestseller Campaigns and other blast promotions actually take time to create. From the outside, it looks like bestseller campaigns happen overnight, but the truth is that most bestseller campaigns are months in the making.

TV NewsIf your book is newsworthy, then your best blast promotion would be to get on national TV shows because of your news tie-in. Does your book tie into the Japanese earthquake, the Libyan situation, the budget mess in Washington, the budget mess in Wisconsin, the Ivory Coast war, the start of the baseball season, March Madness, or some other current news topic? Then you can get TV coverage.

To get TV coverage, contact the major national news and talk shows directly. You can generally find contact information for any TV show on its website.

If your book is not newsworthy (tied into a current news story), then you’ll have to do a lot of Internet marketing. The Internet marketing could be done fairly quickly if you know anything about Internet marketing or creating viral videos. If you don’t already know much about Internet marketing, then you face a steep uphill battle.

So I don’t have a quick and easy answer for you. There simply isn’t one if you don’t already know what you are doing or have the relationships to build a campaign quickly.

My Real Fast Book Marketing program is designed to help you sell 100 to 200 books in two weeks or less, so it really doesn’t answer your need to get massive publicity or recognition fast.

The best way to protect an idea is actually to tell everybody about the idea. It’s sort of counter-intuitive, but very accurate. If you promote your idea so well that everyone associates it with you, then you have the protection you want.

Your best bet right now is national TV if your book has a natural tie-in to a current news event. If not, the second best promotion is a viral video (but those are incredibly tough to create and promote) – but they do happen.
